Frequently Asked Questions

Hiring a DJ

Versatile Sound Productions

Weddings

Who will be entertaining at my event?
Hiring an entertainer is a very personal choice, so make sure that it is a person you choose, not just a company name.
Be sure that you meet the disc jockey prior to signing a contract.
You should also be guaranteed in writing that the person promised will be the same person who will entertain at your event.
Will you play the music I want at my event?
Any reputable disc jockey company will not only let you make a list of music that you wish to have played, buy you should also be allowed to make a list of songs that you do not want to be played. In many cases, people know what they do not like more than what they do.
You should also be able to provide any specialty music that you wish played that the company does not own and cannot locate; this is particularly important when dealing with ethnic music.
How much experience does my entertainer have?
Experience can be measured in years or by number of events.
Keep in mind that you should be hiring a specific entertainer, and that the person’s experience is what counts, not the years of experience the company has.
Do you use commercial grade equipment, and do you carry back-up equipment?
Reputable disc jockey companies use equipment that was designed to handle the everyday wear that mobile disc jockey equipment is subjected to.
Although a consumer grade compact disc player can deliver just as clear of a sound as a commercial grade player, most consumer equipment was not designed to be transported once put in service.
Back-up equipment is a must; any disc jockey who does not carry back-up equipment is putting your event at risk.
Can you provide me with references?
There are two kinds of references that you should look for:
  1. References from recent satisfied customers.
  2. References from industry professionals
Photographers, videographers, and venue personnel are all very good sources for references as well as referrals.
Who will be my disc jockey?
Versatile Sound Productions has 3 qualified disc jockeys, so be assured that a qualified disc jockey will always be ready and available for your next event.
Can I meet the disc jockey who will be entertaining at my event before making my decision?
Yes, at an appointment in either our office or yours, at our home, or at your event site.
Do you charge for travel or set-up?
There is NO charge for either, except in extreme circumstances, i.e. no elevator access to an upstairs event, or a venue more than 30 miles from our office.

If my party runs later, can you stay longer?
We love a good party, and would be happy to stay.
If you are having an afternoon event, we suggest that you schedule enough time when you sign our contract. We may have an evening event scheduled, and we would hate to end your event prematurely.
When will you arrive the day of our event?
We arrive approximately one to two hours prior to the scheduled starting time.
Please let us know if you need us to set up early.
Do you take breaks?
No! You will have continuous music from the scheduled start time until it’s time to end.
We have never planned a wedding before. Will you help us set an itinerary for the day?
One month prior to your wedding, we can get together for a consultation and work out all the details regarding the order of events and music program.
Should we include you in our count for lunch/dinner?
Although it is not required, a meal would be appreciated.
We put in about eight hours of work to do a four hour event, which is a long time between meals.
If something happened to my disc jockey, who would entertain at my party?
It would take something very debilitating to keep us from entertaining.
In the event this should happen, we have experienced personnel who could be called in as back-ups.
Do you mix you music live?
Yes we do!
There are many other companies out there that are what we call pre-programmed and what that means is they have someone else across sea’s mix the music for them and all they do is press play on their cd players.
Versatile Sound Productions on they other hand mixes music live so we can take request at any time and play the types of music you and your guest want!
Our goal is to make sure everyone is on the dance floor having a good time.
If I want a song that you don’t have, can I loan you my copy?
We try our hardest to have what you request, but in the event we don’t the answer is yes.
We can play your favorite compact disc or cassette tape.
What types of music can you play?
Pretty much whatever you want us to play.
The only exclusions are songs with profanity in them.
Can I make a list of songs I want played?
Yes! We encourage it.
Do you accept credit card payments?

Visa, Master Card, and American Express
